FRIDA KAHLO – ET LIV I KUNSTEN
7. september 2013 - 12. januar 2014 ARKEN, Denmark
Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is a unique artist and a passionate power woman. She is the epitome of a strong and independent woman and an inspirational role model. The exhibition provides insight into Kahlos work through a variety of her most iconic self-portraits, sketches, pages from her diary, as well as jewelry and dresses from her time. The works are based on her dramatic life, which holds a terrible traffic accident, countless surgeries, unrequited love to the artist Diego Rivera, affairs with women as well as men, abortions and infertility, as well as political activism.
When the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo died in 1954, her husband muralist Diego Rivera locked her clothes and jewelry- all personal possessions- into a bathroom. Diego instructed that the room to be unlocked fifteen years after his own death. Forgotten, they stayed there for fifty years.
